Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speechwriter. She was the creator of Feminist Frequency which hosts videos and commentary analyzing portrayals of women in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning feminist journalist from Canada and a blogger. Feminist Frequency is an educational site for non-profit organizations that explores the representations of females in popular culture narratives. Aiming to dispel the myths of women that exist in pop culture, she has also been working on issues related the gender-specific harassment of women as well as other classes of people on the internet. Sarkeesian is a graduate in political thought and social theory at York University. She is also a highly-respected public speaker. Sarkeesian gave speeches to the TEDxWomen XOXO Fest and United Nations Broadband Working Group. While a student at university she became concerned about issues related to gender identity and women's rights from a young age. The ambitious lady planned to start an internet-based series that examined the gender roles in games however, she was also the subject of an online campaign to harass her. The harassment didn't hinder her. It only strengthened her as a feminist journalist. In recognition of the many contributions she has made to feminist movements, she has been the recipient of numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winner for her work as a media journalist. She also serves as the director and founder of Feminist Frequency a nonprofit educational organisation that studies pop culture gender representations.
