She was born to Kosovo Albanian parents Anesa Rexha and Dukagjin Lipa. Her parents are of Kosovo Albanian descent. Bosnian descent through her maternal grandmother. It is possible to trace her family's roots back to Peja which is a city located in Kosovo. The grandparents of Lipa's grandfathers were both history professors. Gjin and Rina are her twins. The father of Lipa, who was a musician and lead singer from the Kosovan group Oda was a major influence on her music. In the family, her father would continue to play music including his original compositions as well as songs from David Bowie Bob Dylan Radiohead Sting The Police and Stereophonics.
